The mechanical mechanism of failing weight deflectometer （FWD） is summarized in the first, and the technical advantages of FWD are also analyzed to highlight its applications. Main procedures and attention matters for FWD are concluded, and the application features of FWD into asphalt concrete and cement concrete pavements are refined. Finally, the application prospect of FWD in highway is detailed discussed to promote the practice and research of FWD.
