There is a common salvation complex in most of Pearl S. Buck's works which are related to China, and it looks like never be changed. But the resemblance of the surface can not conceal the fundamental variation of the inner layer. From the early works to the later works, the Chinese-estern salvation pattern constructed by Pearl S. Buck changed greatly because of the awakening of her gender identity and Chinese cultural identity. First, the religious redemption is denied from being absent; second, the gender of the Redeemer and the Redeemed is reversed; finally, Western cultures salvation changes to Chinese culture salvation. Thus, it seems that Pearl Buck stays in step with the "salvation complex" of American mainstream culture, but the truth is that she replaces almost all the cores of American culture: religious salvation and male center by the worship of land and "benevolence" which come from Chi- nese culture.
