Objective To explore changes of total cholesterol (TC)and triglyceride (TG)levels in patients with lung cancer before and after chemotherapy. Methods 126 patients with lung cancer treated in our hospital from Jun. 2013 to Sep. 2015 were selected as observation group. 80 healthy people were selected as control group. Fasting venous blood was drew for patients in observation group upon admission to hospital and after chemotherapy. Fasting venous blood was drew for patients in control group on the next day. Serum was extracted, TG and TC levels were detected. Changes of TG and TC levels were observed in patients with lung cancer based on the final results of patients in con- trol group. TG and TC levels were compared among different pathological types in patients with lung cancer. Results The TC level in observation group was significantly lower than that in control group(P 〈 0.05). There was no signifi- cant difference on TG level between the two groups( P 〉 0.05 ). The TC level was increased after chemotherapy (P 〈 0.05 ). There was no significant difference on TG level after chemotherapy( P 〉 0.05 ). The TC level in squamous car- cinoma was lower than that in the other types of lung cancer( P 〉 0.05 ). There was no significant difference on TG level among groups (P 〉 0.05 ). Conclusion The TC level in patients with lung cancer is lower than that in healthy control. The TC level is greatly increased after chemotherapy. The serum TC level can be considered as an index for disease development and prognosis evaluation.
