A Study of A Literature of Their Own and the Construction of the Community

肖瓦尔特在《她们自己的文学》里评析了英国女性文学自19世纪至20世纪末,过往漫长的发展历程,其间的艰辛与伟大逐步构建出属于女性自己的文学共同体。文章分为三部分研究英国女性文学从过去至将来的发展,首先探讨其初期发展的重重阻力,之后"女性阶段"和"女权阶段"不断与男性文化抗争的发展历史,最后女性文学在"女人阶段"超越之前的反抗模式,进入探索自我的新层面,建构女性文学特有的共同体,可以自由进入文学大厦里专属女性的一间屋。

Elaine Showalter in A Literature of Their Own discusses the long history of female literature from the nineteenth century to the end of twenty-first century, when the tremendous efforts made by the female writers gradually build the literary community of their own. This paper studies the development of British female literature from the past to the future from three parts. First,it begins with the difficulty confronted with the female writers at the initial stage. Then, it comes to ＂the feminine phase＂ and ＂the feminist phase＂ when they had to fight against male culture. Finally, female literature transcends itself from the revolting into self-exploring, constructing the community characterized by their literature, where the female can freely enter the critical room of its own in the house of literary history.
