Discussion on Liu Yong's Use of Slang in Song Ci

为了传唱的歌妓舞姬和市井中"不知书"的听众,柳永把北宋时期民间非正式、较口语的俚语俗言引入词中,用俚语表达新鲜事物,或对旧事物赋以新的说法,重新把词带回到市井坊曲。这既吸引了一大批市民听众,又打破了词雅俗分流的界限,因此受到市民听众的欢迎。柳永采用长调慢词形式,广泛引用民间俚语俗言,不仅丰富了词的语言,扩大了词的表现能力,而且也因此恢复了词的生命,对后来宋元戏曲、通俗小说等俗文学登上文坛做出了贡献。

For the sake of kabuki and the audience who don＇t know books,Liu Yong brought the folk informal and oral slang words into Song Ci in the Northern Song Dynasty time to express new things with slang,or endow old things with new expressions.He took the Ci back to the town square,which attracted a large number of audience,and broke the boundaries of the elegance and vulgarity of the Ci words.So it was welcomed by the public audience.Liu Yong adopted a large scale of the forms of Changdiao and Manci and a wide quotation of folk slang or vulgar language,which not only enriched the language of the Ci word,expanded the Ci expression ability,but also restored the life of Ci,and contributed for the later Song Yuan opera,popular novels and other folk literature to step onto the literary world.
