现代油气地球化学的研究已经达到分子级水平,油气生成过程实际上是在地壳内一定条件下进行的有机质化学过程,即有机质地球化学过程。沉积有机质的成烃演化过程基本上分为四个逐步过渡的阶段:未成熟、成熟、高成熟及过成熟;不同类型的有机质由于来源不同,其生烃模式特征也不同。这个模式是油气地球化学研究的关键,认识这些阶段的特征与油气生成模式,对于判断生油期、评价生油潜能、油气地球化学的认识具有重要的意义。
