This paper briefly introduced the generation,development,and applications of porphyrin chemistry,as well as the structure features and characteristics of porphyrin compounds.Emphases were put on three parts,synthesis of new porphyrin derivatives and their applications in medicine,synthesis of new porphyrin derivatives and their applications in optoelectronic material science,synthesis of new porphyrin derivatives and their applications in catalysis science.Future developments of porphyrin chemistry were prospected in the end.
