High population density is often associated with crowding, congestion and environmental problems. In contrast, Hong Kong's podium-tower developments are examples of how density can be livable, thanks to their unique integration in mass transit, the creation of new forms of open space and vertical circulation methods, and highly-efficient, diamond and cruciform-shaped, serrated towers that maximize the window surface within a plot. Hong Kong is the world's laboratory of vertical urbanism.
