作为方法的“直译”——从鲁迅替《勇敢的约翰》“校字”谈起

Literal Translation as a Method:On Lu Xun's Proofreading of the Translation of Brave John

裴多菲的长篇叙事诗《勇敢的约翰》由孙用先生翻译后,鲁迅进行了认真校对,并提出修改意见,分别是:"直译"原文中的人名和地名,以免产生歧义;调换个别词汇,使其符合汉语韵律;规范助词"着"的使用,以避免语义上的矛盾;不使用生造词汇,以确保语义顺畅。由于新文化建设的需要,鲁迅先生对外国文学翻译的要求非常严格,他这种自觉的把关意识,给当代出版的质量建设提供了很多启发。

When Petofi Sandor＇s long narrative poem Brave John was translated by Sun Yong, Lu Xun made a thorough proofreading of it and his revision suggestions are as follows..1. Personal names and place names should be translated literally to avoid ambiguity;2. Some words should be replaced so as to conform to the Chinese meter and rhyme;3. The use of the auxiliary word ＂zhe＂ should be standardized so as to avoid the inconsistency in meaning;4. Use of coinages should be avoided as much as possible so as to convey the meanings clearly to the readers. To meet the requirement of the construction of a New Culture, Lu Xun was very strict with the translation of foreign literary works. His consciousness in quality checking set a very good example for contemporary publications.
