摘要
作为加拿大"文艺复兴"时期的代表作家,M·劳伦斯具有强烈的民族意识,在小说中主要塑造了三种文化身份构建模式:莫拉格在故国(苏格兰)与民族(加拿大)间进行身份选择;朱尔斯通过歌曲坚守并颂扬自己的少数族裔身份;皮珂特通过依附白人改变身份认同的努力以失败告终。由此,作家的民族意识得以彰显:加拿大人应确立自己的加拿大民族身份,在此前提下少数族裔要保持并弘扬自己的族裔特性,最终实现主流社会与少数族裔相互融合,共同发展。
As the representative writer during Canadian "Renaissance", M Laurence possesses a strong national consciousness. She mainly depicts three cultural identity construction modes: Morag chooses her identity between her motherland (Scotland) and nation (Canada) ; Jules sticks to and extols his identity as a minority; Piquette's effort to change her identity by attaching herself to a white man fails in the end. From the three modes, the writer's national consciousness is revealed: Canadians should establish their Canadian identity; under this condition, the minorities should sustain and extol their ethnic characteristics; finally, the mainstream society should integrate with minorities and develop together.
