Focusing on the end of The Waves, Woolf’s ironic homage to death is examined,and the paradox in tension is expressed-to both continue and to break from tradition. The radically conflicting desires result in this terrible loss of selves that most express themselves in many of foregone potential, possibilities who are like ghosts to haunt characters, which make them think of the faded progress of what once could have been. This is modern tragic vision of＂unborn selves＂.
