在二战和移民浪潮的催化下,民族意识逐渐觉醒,少数民族及亚文化群体不堪压迫,对其生存和发展状况不断提出新的诉求。多元文化主义在时代的变迁中应运而生,作为缓和民族与国家矛盾的一种思潮,其试图培养具有解放精神、拥有政治平等、尊重文化差异、平衡国家认同与族群认同关系、极具包容心的开放的世界公民。为了培养该种公民,多元文化主义者在教育价值观、教育目标、教育内容、教育方法和教育实施等方面提出了自己的主张,旨在把学生培养成为能够尊重差异且善于处理民族或者文化间矛盾与冲突的合格公民。

As a kind of trend to moderate ethnic and national contradictions, Muhieuhuralism, promotes development of political equality, respects for cultural differences, balances the relationship between national identity and ethnic identity, highly tolerates heart ＂open self＂ citizens. In order to develop this kind of citizens, Muhicuhuralism also puts forward its own education proposals In terms of educational values, educational objectives, educational contents, educational methods and the implementation of education. It aims to cultivate students to be able to respect differences, and be good at dealing with national or cultural conflicts and conflicts of qualified citizens.
