早期墓志历经萌芽、初步探索、成熟定型这三个阶段,这三个阶段中墓志的文体功能也逐渐完善,由简单的记到以记为主,颂的功能初步显现;再到记颂结合,以颂为主。早期墓志功能变迁的原因在于:一、援碑入志;二、社会政治因素;三是丧葬观念。

Early epitaphs experienced three stages of germination, preliminary exploration and maturity, during which the stylistic functions of epitaphs gradually grew thorough, from simple record to record first and praise second, and to praise first and record second. The reasons for the function changes of early epitaphs are： first, transcription of epitaphs to chronicles; second, social and political factors; third, the concept of funeral.
