The Kite Runner:a Perspective of Dual Cultural Identity

作为阿富汗的代言人,阿富汗裔美籍作家卡勒德·胡赛尼为世界打开了一扇窥探阿富汗生活的窗户;而作为一位移民作家,他不得不对其美国公民的身份进行认证。可以说,胡赛尼的双重文化身份给他的文学带来了独特的创作视角。文章对胡赛尼的移民身份进行了建构,并对小说所呈现出来的东、西方文化符码和不同文化之间的冲突与融合迹象给予了关注,展现并印证了东、西方文化之间的对立统一关系以及流散作家在文化交流中的独特价值。

As a spokesperson of Afghanistan, the Afghan-American writer Khaled Hosseini did open a window for the world to have a look at Afghanistan, and as a diaspora writer, he really had to have a self-identity in the country that he resided. Hosseini＇s dual cultural identity brought him a unique way for literary creation. In this study, Hosseini＇s immigration status, as well as the conflict and fusion of the Eastern and Western cultures that were shown in The Kite Runner, was discussed. Besides, the dialectical relationship between the Eastern and Western cultures and the unique value of the diaspora writers in the cross-cultural communication are explored.
