Study on Bronze Flat-Ridged Swords

平脊剑属于两周时期青铜剑中剑脊设计的一种特殊形态,其造型可分为三类,分布区域以北方、中原和吴越之地为主。平脊剑是在青铜剑起源以后,借鉴青铜戈的平脊造型逐步发展而来,自西周早中期一直到战国晚期都有存在。随着时间推移,平脊宽度减少,而两刃则相应加宽。平脊造型也对青铜铍产生过影响。

Flat-ridge swords were a type of swords with a special design of the middle ridge during the Zhou periods. The article establishes the typology of flat-ridged swords includes three major subtypes distributing in Northern China, Central Plains, and Wu-Yue area respectively. The invention of flat-ridged swords was inspired by the flat-ridged design ofge halberd and developed gradually from the Western Zhou to Warring States periods. In general, the width of the fiat ridge decreased and edges became wider over the time. The fiat-ridged design also impacted on the invention of bronzepi daggers.
