Folk Songs and Construction of Modernity in May 4th New Poetry

民间话语是中国新诗现代性发生及建构的重要资源。通过对五四前后民间话语与白话新诗两者间关系的重新梳理,可以发现:发轫于北京大学的现代民间歌谣运动给刚刚起步的五四新诗带来了一股清新、强劲的民间气息,并为五四新诗在"人"学思想、语言表达、诗歌体式等方面的现代性建构提供了重要的可资借鉴的本土文化资源,也为白话新诗取代文言旧诗、形成自己的现代品格打下了坚实的基础。

Folk discourse is an important resource in the emergence and construction of Chinese new poetry. By reanalyzing the relationship between folk discourse and vernacular poetry in the May 4th New Culture Movement, we find that the modern folk song movement, which began at Peking University, brought a fresh and strong folk atmosphere to the May 4th New Poetry. It provided an important local cultural resource for the construction of modernity in the aspects of human thought, language expression and poetic style. Moreover, it laid a solid foundation for the vernacular poetry to replace the classical poetry and to form its own modern character.
