This paper studies the changes of ethnic Va thatched houses in Wending over the past 35 years, showing the process from spontaneous improvements and renewals at first, to wide application of asbestos tiles as a revolutionary building material, ending with the village as a scenic site for preserved development. It aims at exploration of the driving factors and mechanisms for the changes with possible ways to decide on the future of the local people.
