From its initial issue, Peking Review has shouldered responsibility to disseminate propaganda about Mao Zedong Thought throughout the world. Before the onset of the " Cultural Revolution," the journal mainly publicized Mao Zedong' s views on the world situation and the world order by forwarding editorials, declarations, and announcements to issue relevant reports and comments. After the outbreak of the "Cultural Revolution," in its external publicity about Mao Zedong Thought, Peking Review began to reveal the radical trends, attempting to highlight a sense of ritual. However, based on feedback from foreign readers, high-level CPC leaders intervened in this type of publicity. The dilemma in the process of disseminating propaganda on Mao Zedong Thought was to represent the epitome of all propaganda work, which can he understood from the perspectives of knowledge, ideol- ogy, and foreign relations.
