An Inquiry into the Historical Background of Biagraphical Sketches af Same Famaus Ministers of the Yuan Dynasty

《元朝名臣事略》是元末苏天爵私修的本朝名臣传记,传文辑录自行状、家传、碑文、墓志及时人文集等第一手资料,部分已佚篇章仅存于此书。由于苏天爵对辑文作者皆讳本名,而以字号、里贯、官称、谥号代替,为此本文逐一考订引文的作者是谁、在当时文坛的地位、有何著作、与传主的关系等,并追溯引文的存佚情况,存者现存何书、何地（石刻、方志）,原文篇名及与《事略》引文的异同等,有助于研究者充分认识本书的史料价值,以便于参考和利用。

Biographical Sketches of Some Famous Ministers of Yuan Dynasty [ Yuan chao ruing chen shilue] is a collection of biographies of some famous ministers in the Yuan era, compiled by Su Tianjue at the late period of the Yuan Dynasty. This collection of biographies has compiled some primary sources that include Xing Zhuang （the biography of the dead people）, family history, stele inscriptions, epitaphs, and the articles of scholars＇ collected works. It keeps some articles had already lost and exist only in this collection now. Su Tianjue had used the authors＇ second name （alias or pseudonym）, origin place of his lineage, official title, and posthumous title honored by the emperor, instead of using real name. By analyzing such characteristic, this article is intended to verify those real authors of biographies, their status in the literature world at that time, their works in which the quoted passages had appeared, and their relationship with the subjects of the biographies. The article also attempts to investigate the existence of the quoted passages, where they are, in which books, which place （e.g. tablets or local records）, and the original titles, as well as if the titles are the same as the ones quoted in the Biographical Sketches if they still exist. The article could help the researchers to fully recognize the value of this book as historical data and provide convenience in using as reference.
