A New Exploration into the Theme of Sandalwood Felling

《诗经·伐檀》一诗主旨 ,并非“刺贪”或“反对阶级剥削”。通过对诗的作者、车的用途、《诗经》时代魏地情形的考证 ,以及诗末句的训释可推知 :诗人以车正 (车人之首 )的身份 ,叙写伐檀造车之事 ,并拟用对答之语 ,借以肯定自己为“不素餐”者 ,理应受禄。

The theme of Fa Tan (Sandalwood Felling) in The Book of Songs is not 'satiringcorruption' or 'objection to class exploitation'. By researching the author, the usage of the cart described in the poem, the situation in the Wei Kingdom of that age and the reprehension at the end of the poem, the article concludes that the poet, as the head of the stablemen, describes the process of feeling sandalwood to make carts and proclaims by adopting the way of question and answer that he does not deserve the name of 'a parasite' and is entitled to the reward.
