This paper gives an overview of the antlers excavated from the Chu tombs. An examination of the antlers suggests that most of them were from Sika deers and some were derived from David's deer, which contradicts previous studies. The paper also pays close attention to the excavation condition of the antlers, and suggests that the type of antlers found within the burials were closely associated with the status of the buried owners. The antlers of David's deer were restricted to only the tombs of the elites. Thus, the origins and developments of burial practices involving antlers in the area of the Chu dynasty is also discussed.
