徐继畬与晚清东南士人学术取向

Xu Jiyu and Academic Orientation of Southeast Scholars in the Late Qing Dynasty

鸦片战争前后,徐继畬在福建任地方官多年,福建沿海这一东西方文化撞击交流的前沿地带,为《瀛寰志略》的著成提供了最适宜的条件。对于这部爱国主义先驱名著在近代文化史上的价值,我们应该有新的认识:一是为一向暗昧无知的国人展现了一幅比较正确而完整的世界图画;二是对西方列强既富强又富于侵略性的特点有敏锐的认识,并高度赞扬西方民主制度的先进性。在徐继畬及林则徐、王韬、严复等晚清东南士人为代表的进步人物身上,体现出学术的革新取向,开放意识为其基本的特征,在全国起到了开创风气的作用。

After the Opium War,Xu Jiyu was appointed magistrate in Fujian for many years,the Fujian coastal,which was the frontier for the collision of East and West exchanges,has provided the most suitable conditions for the writing of'Yinghuan Zhilue'.We should have a new understanding of the value of this famous patriotic pioneer in modern cultural history.One is that,it showed a more accurate and complete picture of the world for the domestic people who has always been ambiguous and ignorant;the two is that,it had a keen awareness to the characteristics of Western powers that were aggressive and prosperous,and it highly praised the advanced nature of Western democracy.From Xu Jishe,Lin Zexu,Wang Tao,Yan Fu and other represented progress scholars in the southeast of the late Qing dynasty,it reflected the orientation of academic innovation,opening consciousness as its basic characteristics and created the role of opening culture in the whole nation.
