After the Boxer Protocol （ which is also known as the Treaty of 1901） was signed in 19（11, the Beiiing l.egation Quarter and its surrounding area were turned into an ＂Embassy Quarter＂. The Taijichang Street was a major north-south street in the Embassy Quarter and was marked as ＂Marco Polo Road＂in the Beijing Legation Quarter Map which was drawn by French at that time since the Italian Legation was in its northwest side.
