Chess Problem and Nabokov's Narrative Strategy: A Study of Speak,Memory

作为小说家,纳博科夫却以排局闻名国际象棋界。在文学创作中,纳博科夫有意识地应用国际象棋排局的艺术,令其叙事策略具有极强烈的个人风格。其回忆录《说吧,记忆》所具有的螺旋型结构、重构记忆、对读者的欺骗等叙事策略,呈现出与国际象棋排局艺术的相通性,形成了文本与读者之间的对话。

As a great writer,Nabokov has owned his fame in the field of chess. The distinct personal style of Nabokov's novels is partly resulted from his deliberate adoption of the art of chess problem. The book Speak,Memory,as his autobiography,expresses his narrative strategies such as the spiral structure,the recreation of memory and the deceit on readers. These narrative strategies show an interlink with the art of chess problem,in addition,help to form a dialogue between the author and his readers.
