This article reviews the financial monitoring framework under the Federal Reserve and assesses current U.S. financial stability conditions. It concludes that while significant progress has been made in recent years toward making the financial system more stable and resilient, there is still insufiicient information on some aspects of the shadow banking system. Risks sometimes evolve outside the scope of prudentia regulation, and this can have potentially negative implications for financial stability.
