As a kind of typical spatial texture, traditional market space especially the market hall usually exists in the centre area of city or town. In history, there was a very long time that traditional market controlled the food distribution. But recently it is facing crucial problems such as old building environment and competition from supermarket. Traditional market space is not only a small scale trade space with great diversity, but also a kind of heritage with everyday use. The paper will try to find its space significance through its own space features, and analyze the common problems by using the case of Grainger market in Newcastle upon Tyne.
