纵观生命医学研究领域，任何一种材料、药物的发展都需要经历不懈的探索以及漫长的实践验证。稀土上转换纳米颗粒是一类特殊的发光材料，它在生物医学领域具有良好的应用前景、可以预见，在材料、化学、物理、生物、医学等多领域科学家的努力下，稀土上转换纳米颗粒未来必定可以在生物医学领域大放异彩、造福人类。

Rare-earth upconversion nanoparticles(UCNP) are considered promising tools for application to bioimaging,biodetection, sensing, cancer therepy etc. This article is focused on the basic properties and recent progress of UCNP in fluorescence, biosensing, multifunctional bioimaging and cancer therapy.
