多年来,东非沿海地区出土了大量来自海外的遗物,说明了该地区具有参与海外贸易的历史传统。值得关注的是,这一地区同时也是古代中国陶瓷的重要销售地之一。就该地区出土的古代外来陶瓷制品而言,除中国陶瓷制品外,还包含有来自西亚、印度半岛和东亚其他地区的产品。所以,要从整体视角观察东非沿海地区的古代对外贸易,分析古代中国商品在其中的地位与作用,则必然要将该地区古代遗址内出土的遗物与其他地域的遗物进行比较研究。

Seen from the unearthing statuses in all of the sites, the llth and the end of the 14th centuries were the climaxes of the importing of the Islamic glazed pottery to the East African coastal area. The similarities and differences between the Islamic glazed pottery and Chinese ceramics unearthed in the East African coastal area showed that the Islamic glazed pottery indirectly proved the potential influences of the elements of Chinese culture with ceramics as the carder to the East African coastal area even the Middle East.
