摘要
二战后,英国的政治与文化氛围发生巨变,威廉斯、霍尔等左翼学者开始转向当代大众文化问题,以图为开辟新的左翼政治寻求学理资源。霍加特建立的伯明翰大学当代文化研究中心,旨在进一步推进大众文化研究。该中心成员深度参与了六七十年代的学生抗议、女权运动等新社会运动,促使他们萌发出基于其认同政治的问题意识和选题设定,由此发展出女性研究、种族研究等学术论域,改变了伯明翰学派的原有学术发展路径。这与其学人代际间的群体特征和政治认同差异密切相关。随着激进文化的退却,该中心的学术与建制日益体制化。
After the World WarⅡ,great changes in political and cultural atmosphere have taken place in Britain. The Left Scholars such as Raymond Williams and Stuart Hall shifted their focuses to the problem of mass culture and pursued academic resources for their New Left politics. In order to promote the study of mass culture,Richard Hoggart built the Centre of Contemporary Cultural Studies in Birmingham University. The members of the center participated in the New Social M ovements such as students protests and feminism movements deeply,through w hich their identity politics shaped. All of these made the students germinated astonishing consciousness of problems and research topics,and through that they developed new academic fields such as w omen studies and race studies,w hich changed the academic direction of the Birmingham School. The development w as intertw ined w ith the group feature and political identity of its members of different generations. As the radical culture faded,the center has gradually become into an institutionalized academic organization.
