Focusing on the transitional Edwardian Age, E.M. Forster's Howards End manages to re- present the problems that exist in the issues such as class, material prosperity, culture, and spirit through the vivid characterization of figures with different class and family background. Meanwhile, the novel also skillfully represents the positive elements in the society at that time. Hov-rds End can be read as an embodiment of Forster's contemplation on the contemporary social problems and their so- lutions. Forster tends to believe that if the positive elements in the society can be combined together and the negative ones being discarded, then the society can have a potential of a brighter future. To "connect" is an available approach to achieving this goal. Although the feasibility of such an approach could be further argued, as a literary exploration, it would be beneficial to society.
