This paper outlines the origins of World Reading Day and Nationwide Reading （Program）, and reviews the progresses of Nationwide Reading in the past ten years. It further discusses all the ancient and modern experiences needed for the sustainable development of the Nationwide Reading, and analyzes the key issues such as ＂What＇s the purpose of reading＂, ＂How to bring out the best of traditional and digital reading and make them reinforce each other＂.
