Soldiers Alive is an authentic portrait of Japanese invaders' aggression on Nanjing, which, from one aspect, reflects the trauma the war had left on the Japanese soldiers. It reveals the massive harm the wars espe- cially aggressive wars had done to humanity. In the book, a soldier named Kondo suffered greatly from post-trau- matic stress disorder because of the war, where he killed a Chinese girl with maltreatment due to hyper vigilance. After that, in order to relieve the agony of anxiety, he strived to avoid introspection of the atrocity he had commit- ted. However, it turned out to be useless and he still could not escape from the torment of repetitive recurrence of the trauma. This ended up seriously distorting his humanity and nearly cracking him up.
