The passion to explore exotic cultures and understand exotic ethnics is the keynote throughout Li Yih--yuan＇s academic career from his early studies on the Gaoshan ethnic group of Taiwan to the later studies on the Han Chinese society. To understand such a passion and the theoretical startpoit beneath Li＇s concern for exotic cultures will help us form a clearer idea of his philosophy, and can still inspire us in today＇s cultural anthropological studies.
