In the historical process of modem Chinese scholars' translation and reception of western literary thought and literary theory in the 20th century, Japan has played an important intermediary role. The reception of Freud and the symbolism by the Chinese literary circles through Kuriyagawa Hakuson is a typical case of this "intermediary". In the 1930s, the Chinese publishing industry translated more Japanese scholars' writings of literary theory. Among them, the European Recent Literary Trends by Shinzaburo Miyajima, as well as the Russian Modem Thought and Literature by Noboshiyo Mu, as the intermediaries for Chinese literary circles to understand Western literary thought, are two typical cases. Japan's reception of western literature is not a process of swallowing, but a "complete digestion and growth" process. In this way, Japan is not just an "intermediary", but also a "method".
