1930年代的"乡下人进城"小说多采用政治、经济视角展开社会批判,尤其是"左翼"倾向作家的"进城"书写更为明显。王统照的《山雨》、茅盾的《子夜》《微波》、丁玲的《奔》、叶紫的《杨七公公过年》五篇小说构成了一幅1930年代的城乡"流民图",小说旨在揭露和批判支配城乡经济社会发展中"外来资本"的"罪恶",呈现出"半殖民地"国家想象色彩。
