现今,官方将扬州城始建年代定于公元前486年,即建城史为2500年。但根据扬州早期历史沿革分析及考古调查与发掘结果,扬州城始建年代应早至邗国建城时,即便保守推测,也可追溯至吴王寿梦筑城之时。可见扬州建城史超过2500年,这将进一步提升扬州文化史、城址演变史的研究。
