A Brief R esearch on the Xiamen Coastal Defense Construction in the Late Qing Dynasty

厦门是我国海防前线阵地,在海防线上具有举足轻重的地位。鸦片战争后,厦门逐渐更易原来的海防布置,开始构划近代海防体系。"牡丹社"事件后,厦门海防建设进展迅速,经过多年建设,形成了一定规模的海防力量。但厦门海防建设主政者的思维还停留在以陆为主的传统基调上,以致厦门并未建成严格意义上的近代海防。

Xiamen is in the coastal front of China. It is playing an important role in the coastal line. After the opium war, Xiamen beganto construct the modern coastal defense system. After Mudanshe event, Xiamen coastal defense construction developed rapidly,through many years＇ construction, Xiamen formed a certain scale of coastal defense force. But at this time the main politicians＇ thinking ofthe Xiamen coastal defense construction is still traditional, thus in the strict sense, Xiamen coastal defense system is not the modern coastdefense system.
