"尧都平阳"即今临汾。临汾古为"冀州"之地,正中冀州曰中土,中土亦可作"中国",这便是"中国"一词的滥觞。临汾地处于华夏文明的核心区域,它被誉为"华夏第一都"。在这片地域上孕育了历史上举足轻重的帝王将相及杰出的政治家、军事家、思想家、教育家等,这些人物的涌现与临汾当地的文明程度有着密切的关系,而一个地区文明的发达程度依托于教育的发展,教育事业的开展与知识的传授当然离不开与之相关的教育机构——书院[1]。
