摘要
当代美国作家安妮·普鲁是全球化时代"新地域主义"文学的代表。从当代文化地理学的流动性视角来看,"新地域主义"之新体现在两个方面:一是强调"地方"是建构的产物,因而也是开放、动态的空间;二是认为静态与游牧、地方性与全球化之间并不对立,而是相互交织彼此纠缠。安妮·普鲁的作品始终关注北美不发达地域及其在全球化时代何去何从。在普鲁笔下,即使再偏远隔绝的地域也没有自绝于历史洪流之外,而是通过人口、资本和信息的流动与外部世界发生着各种交集和互动;另一方面,地方只有立足于地方性,才能吸引更多的资本和全球化资源,只有如此,地方才能走出一条可持续发展的道路。
Annie Proulx is one of the greatest New Regionalism Writers in America. According to cultural geographical theory of mobility, what makes the New Regionalism new comprises two aspects ： 1 ） place is constructed and is therefore a dynamic process; 2） the sedentary vs the nomad and locality vs globaliza- tion are not oppositions but interwoven. Annie Proulx＇s novels are concerned with the underdeveloped regions of North America in the era of globalization. In her novels, the seemingly isolated region is interacting with the outside world through the mobility of capital, people, communications, and information. Her novels convey the message that it is the local distinctiveness that enables a place to compete successfully for mobile capital and talents and to develop sustainably.
