In between the Urban Tissues The Design Approach of Shanghai Qiyuan

上海棋院项目的周边环境呈现出一种拼贴肌理,而其设计出发点在于对这种周边形式、尺度、生活形态都差异巨大的城市肌理拼贴出的环境的回应。文章回顾了上海棋院周边街区肌理的演变历史,并探讨了演变背后的机制。在此基础上,分析了上海棋院建筑在保持自身独立性和完整性的基础上实现了与周边街区肌理的呼应,并顺势解决其他建筑问题的基本设计思路。

The surrounding area of Shanghai Qiyuan can be seen as a collage of urban tissues. It is designed as a way to respond to the drastically diverse urban tissues in terms of form, scale, and lifestyle.This essay reviews the development of Shanghai Qiyuan＇s surrounding neighbourhoods, and discusses the mechanisms behind it. In addition, the author dissects a design approach that considers how the building can be self-contained and coherent while well integrated into the surrounding urban tissues, and applies the same principle to resolve other architectural issues.
