The Usage of “Dong” in Xing Dialect

兴县方言属于晋语吕梁片兴岚小片。兴县方言中的"动"用法独特,不仅可作动词,也经常作为助词出现在句中或句末,意义大致相当于普通话的"……的时候"或"……的话"。"动"在兴县方言中的特殊用法,表现在其句法位置、句型特点和语用意义上,而这又进一步体现了它的语法化特点。

The Xing dialect belongs to the Lvliang dialect of Xinglan small group in Jin group. The usage of ＂Dong＂ in Xing dialect is unique because it can be used as not only a verb but also often as an auxiliary occurring in a sentence or at the end of a sentence with the meaning roughly equivalent to the ＂when…＂ or ＂if…＂ in Mandarin Chinese. The special use of ＂Dong＂ in xingxian dialect is manifested in its syntactic position, sentence pattern and pragmatic meaning, which further embodies its grammatical characteristics.
