How to Understand Sympathetically——Reflection and Criticism on the Contemporary Value of Traditional Confucian Ideology

致力于弘扬传统儒学价值的现代新儒家,要求对儒家思想抱有"同情理解"之态度。但细究起来,现代新儒家们"同情理解"态度背后似乎潜藏着深深的"道统"情结,这使得他们在要求对儒家思想抱"同情理解"态度的同时,却缺少对当代生存处境的"同情理解"。同时,这种"道统"意识不但不是对儒家思想的"同情理解",反而是对儒家思想的抽象化理解,在夸大儒家思想当代价值的同时遮蔽了儒家思想应有的当代价值。

The modern new Confucianism,which is committed to promoting the value of traditional Confucianism,requires a ＂sympathetic understanding＂attitude towards Confucianism. However,there seems to be a deep complex of Confucian orthodoxy behind the attitude of ＂sympathetic understanding＂,which demands a ＂compassionate understanding＂attitude towards Confucianism while lacking ＂sympathetic understanding＂of the contemporary living conditions. Furthermore,this ideology of Confucian orthodoxy is actually not a kind of ＂sympathetic understanding＂of the traditional Confucianism,but a kind of abstract understanding instead. Therefore,when it exaggerates the contemporary value of traditional Confucian ideology,the Confucian orthodoxy in the same time obscures the proper value of the Confucianism in the modern society.
