论辜鸿铭《中庸》英译本中道德哲学的建构

On Moral Philosophy Construction in Ku Hungming's English Translation of Zhongyong

辜鸿铭在第一次世界大战期间英译了《中庸》,他翻译《中庸》的目的主要是要借《中庸》的翻译来宣扬中华道德文明的优势,改变西方对中国以及中国文化的态度。因而,在具体翻译中,他通过多种途径来彰显原典中的道德内容,主要表现在:通过序言、附录等副文本总体性论说中华文明之道德文明的本质;通过在译本正文核心术语翻译中添加"moral"一词来突显道德的内涵;通过译本中相当数量的双行小注来进一步随文阐释道德的主题。辜鸿铭的译本成功地将《中庸》建构成为代表中华道德文明的有机整体,他在翻译中所尝试的阐释路径与方法,也为后人开辟了翻译阐释的新天地。

Ku Hungming translated Zhongyong during the First World War and his translation purpose is to advocate Chinese peculiar moral civilization and thus to change western people's attitude towards China.In The Conduct of Life,he embodies the theme mainly through the introductory words on Chinese moral philosophy in his translation preface and appendix;through the addition of 'moral' in the key terms translation and the quotation of the relevant statements from western philosophers or the interpretation of these quotations in the interlinear commentaries to foreground the moral theme of the source text.Ku Hungming's translation succeeds in building Zhongyong as an integral wholeness of Chinese moral civilization and his interpretative translation method opens a new way for translation practices.
