Planting in Capitals in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty

春秋、战国时期,列国都城建设获得了较大、较快发展。其中,都城绿化及景观建设已经达到了相当成熟的高度,并确立了完整的管理制度,设置专门官职承担相关事务。在当时条件下,各个都城选用了不同的绿化树种,形成各自地域性的生态景观,积累了丰富的实践经验,对于今天的城市绿化工作仍具有一定的启迪意义。

In the Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period, all the states＇ capitals in our country had good chances in constructing and got bigger more. Among the achievements, the works of planting along the capitals’ roads and other spaces had reached the height of the era under the times’ conditions and were quite mature. The authority set up special offices to bear the related affairs and established a complete management system about the road planting and so on. Each capital had organized and formed the regional ecological landscape belonging to itself by using different greening tree species. These historical practices accumulate the experience and knowledge in horticulture, and they are still worth being used for practical reference by now.
