基于汉英平行语料库的《檀香刑》中社会称谓语的英译研究

English Translation of Social Address Terms in Sandalwood Death Based on Chinese-English Parallel Corpus

社会称谓语是成功交际的重要因素。基于《檀香刑》汉英平行语料库,对文中使用的所有社会称谓语进行分类统计,逐类探讨文中社会称谓语的语义、语用及葛浩文采用的翻译方法策略。结果发现,葛浩文总体采用了灵活变通的翻译手段,将归化与异化的策略融合在一起,既考虑到译文读者的语言表达习惯,保证了译文的可读性,也竭尽所能保留了原语的文化特点及内涵,传达了原文本的异国风情,使中国文化成功走出去。

Social address terms are crucial to successful social communication.This paper aims to investigate the pragmatic meanings of the social address terms in Sandalwood Death by Howard Goldblatt,exploring the translation methods and strategies he adopts.All the social address terms in this novel are collected and categorized based on Chinese-English parallel corpus.Through the analysis of statistics and examples,we find that Howard Goldblatt adopts flexible and diversified means of translation,mixing domestication and foreignization strategies together.In doing so,obviously,the language habits of the target language readers is taken into account,which ensures the readability of the translated texts,and to a large extent,the cultural characteristics and connotation of the original social address terms are preserved,which conveys the exotic tastes of the original text and helps the Chinese culture spread in the world.
