通过查阅古今文献对麦冬的名称、品种、产地、药用等方面进行考证。麦冬的原植物正品是百合科植物麦冬[Ophiopogon japonicus(L.f.)Ker-Gawl],其本草正名为麦门冬(麦冬),最早见载于《神农本草经》,一直沿用至今。其产地现已广泛分布于近20个省份。麦门冬以干燥的块根入药,有文献可考的药用历史达2000多年,彰显出祖国灿烂的药学文化。

Genuine original plant of Ophiopogon japonicus is liliaceous plant of Ophiopogon japonicus（L.f.）Ker-Gawl,the materia medica name ophiopogon root（radix）,the earliest see load on the Shennong Classic of Materia Medica,has been in use ever since. Its origin is now widely distributed in nearly 20 provinces.
