Mary Oliver is one of the most popular contemporary poets in the United States,who has been strongly influenced by American naturalism poets,such as Emerson and Thoreau. Since 1980 s,some critics have criticized her poetry mainly from the four theoretical perspectives： the feminism,the romanticism,the ecology and the theology,attempting to categorize her works. Mary Oliver herself firmly resists these interpretations of her poetry,and insists on the universal aesthetic values and cultural diversity of poetry. She seeks to offer an inclusive experience to her readers.
