Because of haze, atmospheric environment is no longer a common thing for the urban public and the conflict between the urban environment and economy has intensified. Cities need to weigh the issue of haze control additionally, which undoubtedly makes Chinese cities＇ march towards sustainable development more arduous and complicated. Haze control must take into account the economic spatial organization structure particular to cities and the complicated and diversified relationship between urban development and atmospheric environment thus caused. China＇s haze problem is perhaps more special and complicated than the Great Smog of London and Los Angeles Photochemical Smog, and haze control will bring out sustainable urban development＇s critical effect through reversed transmission of pressure. Cities should calmly cope with the relationship between rationality and balance, selection of strategic policies and how governments should act, and face this special test of sustainable urban development.
