Aesthetic Characteristics of Buddhist Sculpture in the Song Dynasty

唐、宋的市民社会促进了佛教的世俗化进程;而禅宗"反宗教"、"反传统"的世俗化倾向改变了传统佛教雕像的庄严神圣性。宋代佛教雕像大大发展了唐代佛教雕塑已有的唯美化、装饰化倾向,更加凸显出世俗化生活化的审美趋势。宋代佛教雕塑在唯美化、装饰化方面,远远超越了唐代佛教雕像的简朴内敛之美,更洋溢着一种内心圆融自满的情绪。

The civil society in the Tang and Song dynasties promoted Buddhism secularization. And traditional Bud-dhist statues of sacred gods have changed because of secularization tendency in ＂irreligion＂ and ＂anti-tradition＂ of Zen. Buddhist statues of the Tang Dynasty had the tendency to beautification and decoration. Buddhist sculpture in the Song Dynasty had more aesthetic and secular. They have gone far beyond the simple beauty of the Buddhist statues in the Tang Dynasty, which is permeated with a kind of inner harmony complacency emotions.
