兄终弟及是金代皇位继承制度有别于中原皇位嫡长子继承的重要形式,对于金代政治产生深远影响。金代兄终弟及本是为了特定的目的而产生的便宜之策,而后成为祖宗故事,从世祖劾里鉢到太宗完颜晟无不遵奉,但是随着金代政权稳固,出于皇权加强的需要,嫡长子继承与兄终弟及这两种传位方式展开激烈的碰撞,也由此使得金代宗室之间政治斗争十分激烈。

The system of inheriting from one′s late elder brother was an important inheriting form in Jin Dynasty, which was different from the lineal primogeniture system, and had profound effect on the politics of JinDynasty. It was a stratagem at their discretion and later became a story about their ancestors, obeyed by all theemperors from Emperor Congshizu Helibo to Emperor Taizong Wanyan Sheng. However, as Jin′s power wasmore and more strengthened, the two systems deployed fierce collisions, thus making the political struggle among imperial clans very violent.
